We at WTF greatly appreciate the EPA for keeping us safe from exaggerated or fraudulent claims about products that have to do with our environment, just as their name implies, Environmental Protection Agency. In this case “Environment” also includes your interior surroundings that could include a house or car, etc… and not just the great outdoors. Many people confuse EPA with the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) which primarily focuses on protecting and promoting public health by regulating food safety, drugs, tobacco etc. One area where they can overlap is with the safety of drinking water.
Our MY GUARD antimicrobial coatings go on pretty much anything in your interior or exterior environment that is not living. Any “THING” includes inanimate non living things like furniture, walls, machinery, etc… And not humans or animals. More specifically, our coatings coat the surface or substrate of things and here is where it can get complicated complying with EPA legal wording…if you didn’t think it was already.
If we are talking about our “NON-ANTIMICROBIAL” or regular ceramic coatings that do not contain EPA antimicrobial disinfectant ingredients – We can say or claim how the coating protects the “thing” or the “surface of the thing” that is coated, from UV, fire, corrosion, abrasion etc (nothing to do with antimicrobial ability). However, if we are talking about our MY GUARD Antimicrobial coatings we CANNOT legally say or claim that the coating protects any “THING” or even the surface of “that thing” from microbes like bacteria, viruses, mold and fungus. In fact, the only legal “thing” that could be considered protected by an antimicrobial coating, is only the coating itself and not the surface of the “thing” under the coating.
Since the EPA primarily only regulates coatings for non living things, we cannot “CLAIM JUMP” to how our coatings could have any connection to, or affect on, living things which is FDA territory. The only other area where the EPA and FDA might seem to overlap again would be with “Food Grade Compliancy” for coatings near food but not on food.
This might seem like a big “double talk” waste of time dealing with government regulations and guidelines but I have been to China where they, for the most part, haven’t had protective government regulations for decades and the effects are disastrous. The results I personally witnessed for a week in Hong Kong and Mainland China are: You don’t see the sun at all because of the smog which also makes your throat sore if you don’t wear a mask and gloves like the locals do everywhere. The harbor, tap water and ice is so polluted they don’t put ice in drinks including in nice restaurants. I’m glad we have the EPA and FDA even though they are not always perfect, but who is, especially with a constantly changing playing field dealing with almost all living and non living things in America.
That was all pretty boring to you I’m sure, but it is extremely important that you understand why no one can say or make written claims legally (without fines, etc…) how any antimicrobial coatings could, in anyway, benefit you as a living being because the antimicrobial chemistry only protects or benefits “the coating itself” as dictated by the EPA legal department guidelines.
Any name or description I write that implies, suggest or claims how the antimicrobial coatings work or to what extent, is only referring to the coating surface itself regardless of what “thing” or medium it is coating. This Antimicrobial section will do its best to describe what exact THING or medium we designed the base coating to specifically and successfully bond to without claiming any antimicrobial benefit to said THING. That is what will be legally and awkwardly written everywhere in this section to adhere to EPA guidelines.
If you have any thoughts that clean interior environments and clean things in those environments have no affect on your health at all in any way, then your just too dumb to have read this much of this website and your not here reading about this to get your feelings hurt. When I was 49 my mother successfully survived minor surgery only to die 12 hours later from MRSA she contracted from unclean conditions at the hospital. She was one of 80,000 cases and one of 11,000 people who die from MRSA every year-WTF. MRSA is a lethal bacteria and simply should not be in any of our environments or on our things, but it is, until it isn’t. This personal tragedy 11 years ago, way before the pandemic, drove me to try to make a life and death difference with what I do. My hope is that nobody else has to helplessly watch a loved one go septic with every organ shutting down except for the heart in a very cruel irony that makes you WANT their heart to stop so they can finally pass in peace. I’m guessing and hoping that my personal hopes and feelings are not considered by the EPA to be claims or endorsements about any THING other then my abstract intentions for a better world.
Obviously the MY GUARD theme borrows from some words and sayings usually associated with religious vernacular and is not used in any negative or blasphemous way- I checked and really asked a religious authority professional.
